Milk And Cookies Featured At Dayton's Inaugural Ball

By Pat Kessler, WCCO-TV

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Gov. Mark Dayton marks his first week in office Saturday with an Inaugural Ball at the Minneapolis Convention Center. It's going to be more low-key than previous Inaugural celebrations, but with a couple of interesting twists.

Because of the hard times many people are having across the country, some governors are opting out of Inaugural Balls completely. Others, like Dayton, are just taming down the event.

The biggest attraction at Dayton's ball: Milk and cookies.

Dayton is setting up a milk bar at his Inaugural using Minnesota milk, of course.

He is also serving Sweet Martha's chocolate chip cookies, a popular State Fair food of choice.

In fact, the whole event has a kind of State Fair feel to it -- State Fair dress is appropriate.

It's a Blue Jeans to Black Tie ball and Dayton says he'll wear blue jeans.

The convention center will be decorated in Minnesota's four seasons and with seasonal foods to match -- including something called "Minnesota Sushi."

Milk is not the only refreshment served at Dayton's inugural ball. There is a cash bar for people who want a frosty adult beverage.
