Minn. Lawmakers Call Colleague's Shooting Tragic

WOODBURY, Minn. (AP) -- Members of Minnesota's congressional delegation say their thoughts and prayers are with the Arizona congresswoman and others who were shot while visiting with constituents.

The shooting Saturday killed at least five people, including a federal judge and a 9-year-old. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head, and a hospital calls the Democrat's outlook "optimistic."

Rep. Michele Bachmann says her "tears are flowing" at the news. She says Giffords governed with integrity and wisdom.

Rep. Erik Paulsen says Giffords is a friend who is bright, hard-working and always smiling.

U.S. Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken and U.S. Rep. Tim Walz also released statements saying their thoughts and prayers were with the victims.

Democratic Rep. Betty McCollum calls the shooting a "monstrous" act of violence.
