Authorities Seek Help In Apparent Double Murder
CROMWELL, Minn. (WCCO/AP) -- Authorities are asking for the public's help in solving an apparent double murder in eastern Minnesota.
Carlton County Sheriff Kelly Lake said the bodies of an adult man and woman were found in a home in Red Clover Township, just outside Cromwell, about 3 p.m. Sunday.
Authorities have not released the identities of the victims, but friends said they are Tom Holm and Kim Schmitz.
"She got along with everybody," said John Lind, who was Schmitz's boss.
When word spread throughout Cromwell, a town of 212 people, that two longtime community members were found dead in their home on Krogh Road, few could hardly believe that crime had found its way to this quiet town.
"Any area, when a crime of this magnitude happens, it's going to affect people. It's a tragedy that has occurred," said Lake.
Investigators are offering little information on the case, but did say a friend of the male victim called 911 after finding Holm's body.
"We aren't able to release a lot of information at this point and there's nobody in custody that's responsible for it so that makes it even more difficult for people," said Lake.
Lake did release new information about a pickup truck that was missing from the man's home. The truck was actually discovered on fire Saturday night -- a night before the bodies were found -- in the Saginaw area in St. Louis County, about 40 miles away.
Lake is asking anyone who noticed anything suspicious or saw the 1991 red Chevy truck with hunting and racing decals on Saturday in the Albert Road area of Saginaw to call her office at (218) 384-3236.
Authorities haven't released information on how Holm or Schmitz died.
