1 Seriously Injured In Car-Cattle Truck Crash

LONG LAKE (WCCO) — One person is in the hospital with a serious injury after a head on crash involving a cattle truck in Long Lake Monday afternoon, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The Patrol says the accident, which occurred at 2:28 p.m., involved an Audi A6, a Honda Civic and a Peterbuilt Truck, which was carrying cattle.

According to the Patrol’s report, the cattle truck was traveling eastbound on Hwy 12 when the driver noticed the Audi swerving, so the driver of the semi swerved to the right and hit a guard rail. The Audi then struck the semi and spun out.

After seeing the crash, the driver of the Honda attempted to stop on the right shoulder, started to slide and ended up striking the driver of the Audi, who was outside the car.

The driver of the Audi was taken to the hospital with a serious injury.

Both the driver of the cattle truck and the Honda suffered no apparent injures.

WCCO-TV crews that were on scene report that some cattle were killed in the accident.

Highway 12 is closed both ways at Wayzata Boulevard.

For the benefit of the person writing this article, a Peterbuilt is the name of the manufacturer of the tractor that pulls a trailer. It is not a “cattle truck”.

We can only hope that the driver of the Audi will be alright. No one likes to see anyone injured or killed in any type of auto accident.

Saw this on my way home, what a mess. Slow down People!!!!

  • Lee

Technically called a livestock trailer as well…

I’m sure someone was driving on the wrong side of the road….people cant figure the lanes on that bypass out…i have seen people driving on the wrong side before…PAY ATTENTION!!

  • MBrady

I drove the wrong way on this bypass when it first opened, as there was so no signage posted! This highway is confusing to many, including locals! Maybe they should have installed a median as you have people passing you at 60+mph, in my opinion, this was a waste of tax payer money, and Im suprised that more people havent been injured on this stretch of highway.

  • Allegra

the guy in the Audi was my dad. that WAS going to be my car.

    • Shane

If is truly your dad, I witnessed the entire accident . I was right behind the livestock semi that he hit. That is my yellow semi in the picture. I was one of the guys that helped lift the Honda Civic off of him and stayed to comfort him until the ambulance arrived. I am really concerned and would appreciate any updates with his status. He is in my thoughts and prayers.

      • Anne

Shane, I would like to talk to you. The Audi driver is my husband. He’s in ICU and will be okay.

      • Shane

Anne, that is so good to hear. Yes, please email me and I will give you my phone number: sfaust53@hotmail.com.

      • Carly Pederson

Shane- I am the woman in the black Jetta that was in front of you, directly behind the Audi. Thanks for the talk. It helped me calm down.

Anne- I was also with your husband, doing my best to offer support. I have thought about him non-stop since yesterday. I would also love an update on his condition. crpederson@live.com

This was predicted when built as a “Super Two” there would be head on crashes killing peaple This should be a four lane divided Highway npt two lanes with nothing but paint stripes dividing them
MNDOT just can’t get it This crash will be the first of many bad accidents

    • Carly

I totally agree with you. They need to re-look at this road. Post a sign atleast! I have almost driven on the wrong side of the road there, and I am familiar with Hwy 12.

  • Mandy

My name is Mandy and I am the girlfriend of the the truck driver in the Peterbilt that was hit head on by the Audi. I would like to send my prayers to the family of the man driving that car. My boyfriends name is Ryan if anyone would like to know. He is doing ok, but is still shaken up by this whole ordeal, and is keeping in contact with me asking about updates on the driver of the car that hit him head on. He did everything is his power to avoid from being hit but as we all can tell there was really nothing he could do. He tried to prevent this accident from being any worse than what it was.

  • Anon

Don’t assume. The police report says the cattle truck was traveling eastbound and the Audi was traveling westbound.
