WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin State Patrol says one person is dead and another injured after a semi-trailer truck plunged off a bridge and crashed into a frozen lake below.
The state patrol says the crash was reported Monday about 8:30 a.m. in Sauk County.
A dispatcher says the semi’s cab ended up on the ice but didn’t immediately know whether the cab had broken through.
Two people inside the cab were extricated. One person died and the other was injured.
The semi crashed off an Interstate 90/94 bridge over Mirror Lake near the Wisconsin Dells. Authorities closed westbound lanes and said delays could last for hours while crews from the state Department of Transportation inspected structural damage to the bridge.
Major highways throughout southern Wisconsin are snow covered and slippery.
