Contest Asks Teens To Address Distracted Driving

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Minnesota teenagers concerned about the dangers of distracted driving have the chance to share their thoughts and creativity with their peers -- and maybe win a little cash.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety and AAA Minnesota/Iowa are asking teens to make television commercials about distracted driving. It's all part of a contest. The top winner will get $1,000.

Minnesota teens in grades 9 through 12 are eligible. The 30-second TV commercial must cover the dangers of distracted driving, as well as solutions to stop distractions.

The commercials are due April 18. The top spots will be part of a public online vote in May.

The winning spot will make its broadcast premiere during the MTV Video Music Awards this fall.
