Abortion Opponents Fill Minnesota Capitol Grounds

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- More than 1,000 abortion foes fanned out on the Minnesota Capitol grounds Saturday for their annual march on the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion.

Speakers at the Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life event said conditions are ripe for anti-abortion legislation in Minnesota. Republicans hold both chambers of the Legislature and plan to advance long-stalled measures.

Among the speakers were Rep. Michele Bachmann and fellow GOP Reps. John Kline, Erik Paulsen and Chip Cravaack.

MCCL wants to cut off funding to Planned Parenthood, which provides abortions, and pass a bill modeled after a Nebraska law that restricts late-term procedures based on the notion that fetuses can feel pain after 20 weeks.

Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton favors abortion rights.
