BRAINERD, Minn. (AP) — Thousands of people gathered on frozen Gull Lake on Saturday for what’s billed as the world’s largest ice fishing event.
Last year’s Brainerd Jaycees $150,000 Ice Fishing Extravaganza attracted more than 10,000 anglers to Hole-in-Day Bay.
Among those attending this year is Gov. Mark Dayton. The Brainerd Dispatch reports he’ll be the first governor to attend the popular event. The newspaper reports he’ll fish with state Rep. John Ward, D-Brainerd.
Lisa Paxton is the chief executive of the Brainerd Lakes Chamber of Commerce. She says Dayton will have no shortage of hands to shake.
The event ran from noon to 3 p.m. All of the proceeds are donated to more than 50 Brainerd-area charities.
