Eau Claire Woman Dies In Apartment Fire
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) -- A 24-year-old Eau Claire woman died after an early morning fire at her apartment.
The woman was identified as Kara L. Hoeck.
When firefighters responded to the two-story duplex at about 4:45 a.m. Saturday they found the woman's upper apartment full of heavy smoke and fire.
The Chippewa Herald reported that firefighters had to use a thermal imaging camera to find her. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
All of the occupants were displaced. Investigators are trying to determine the fire's cause and how Hoeck died.
The fire department says the building is likely a total loss.
