By Adam Carter, NewsRadio 830 WCCO

ONALASKA, Wis. (WCCO) -- In real life, he's a 160 average, but in virtual reality he's unmatched. John Bates, 85, of Onalaska has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as having rolled the most perfect games on Wii Sports Bowling.

From April of 2009 to October 2010, Bates recorded 2,850 perfect games on his Wii. As of Monday, that number had climbed to 3,290.

In Wii bowling, players use a cordless controllers to simulate real bowling action. Bates isn't hesitant about revealing his secret.

"Instead of using one hand, I use two hands," he said.

Bates, who still participates in a senior bowling league in La Crosse every Tuesday, has yet to roll a perfect game in real life.
