Man Charged In Dale Street Murder

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- A 53-year-old man was charged Monday with second-degree unintentional murder for the death of 44-year-old Leila Kim Scott.

Michael Sherman, of St. Paul, will make his first court appearance on Monday in Ramsey County District Court. He is accused of beating Scott to death with a baseball bat inside his apartment on Jan. 21.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called to the apartment building at 313 N. Dale St., around 6:39 a.m. last Friday.

Authorities found Scott's body and a bloody baseball bat inside Sherman's home. After reviewing surveillance video from the apartment's security camera, police saw Scott entering the apartment around 5:14 a.m. and no one else leaving the building until Sherman exited at 6:31 a.m.

A preliminary autopsy determined that Scott died of blunt force trauma to the neck and head, according to the complaint.

County Attorney John Choi said in a released statement, "This was a brutal and shocking murder. It is fortunate that an arrest and charged could be brought in such a timely way."
