Movie Blog: 'King's Speech' Leads Oscar Nods

Up until now, most of the conversation when it comes to Oscars has been centered around The Social Network, the movie that everyone and their mother "knows" is "The Best Movie Of The Year."

So far as the Oscars are concerned, though, The King's Speech is the one to beat. The period piece won no less than 12 Oscar nominations this morning. The Social Network came in third in total nominations, with True Grit also edging it with ten nods.

The Ethan & Joel Coen western won more nominations than even their Oscar-winning No Country for Old Men did three years ago. Among them was 14-year-old star Hailee Steinfeld, who, despite being in nearly every scene in the film, was delegated to the supporting category. Long live category fraud.

Unfortunately, another hopeful with Minnesota connections -- the short film Ana's Playground -- didn't make the final cut.
