Madison-Based Band Updates Packers Fight Song

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Madison-based band Garbage has updated the Green Bay Packers fight song "Go Pack Go!"

Calling themselves the 6 Packers, members of the platinum-selling band Garbage -- Butch Vig and Duke Erikson, along with guitar tech Chad Zaemish of Stoughton -- released "Go Pack Go" before the NFC Championship Game. Lead singer of the band, Shirley Manson, was not part of the recording.

A commercial jingle writer in Milwaukee wrote the original fight song, "Go! You Packers! Go!" The Lumberjack Band first played it at a Packers game in 1931.

A 1992 taped version is played at Lambeau Field after Packers' player introductions and after extra points.

The new song goes, "The brats, the beer, I can smell it all from here," and "Go Pack Go!" is repeated throughout.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports two Madison stations are playing it. Listen here.
