Duluth Could Host 2 More Tall Ships This Summer

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- Tall ships may be returning to Duluth this summer.

Visit Duluth chief executive Terry Mattson told the Duluth News Tribune he plans to bring the USS Niagara and the Pride of Baltimore II to the Duluth Maritime Festival in July.

Mattson said he expects an "entertainment-centric" festival where visitors could take short outings on the ships. The city hasn't signed any contracts with the ships, announced an entertainment lineup or set a date for the event.

It would be much smaller than last year's tall ship display, when the city brought eight vessels into port for the Tall Ships Duluth festival. Mattson said he's planning an even bigger event for 2013, with as many as 10 ships.
