Head Of US Citizenship Office Swears In 80 People

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The man who oversees the nation’s citizenship agency is helping 80 people in Minnesota take their oaths as American citizens.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Alejandro Mayorkas prepared Saturday to lead back-to-back ceremonies at the Mall of America.

In the first, 39 children from 36 countries were being sworn in. They were adopted from abroad or derive their citizenship from their parents.

At the second gathering, 41 adult immigrants from 22 countries will take their oath of allegiance.

Aw, come on! Where are the anti-immigrant, anti-Somali, anti-Islam, anti-Hispanic rants! Don’t tell me you guys have gone soft already?!?

  • paul

These damn immigrants! Next thing you know you’ll hear about them buying houses, raising families, and making important contributions to to American society. Where does it stop?

  • Mr Smart

Just because citizens are anti-illegal immigration, which is in violaton of national law, doesn’t mean hey are anti-immigration. It was the liberal nut bags that blurred te lines because it made them sound compassionate.

    Congratulations to America new citizens…..

Way to insult half your state. I feel sorry for the new citizens that don’t think like you.

  • J Patriot

My great-grandfather did not risk his life and livelihood to travel across the ocean and come to this wonderful country to be surrounded by a bunch of immigrants.

  • Mr Smart

How ignorant is this comment? This has nothing to do with race. It has to do with legal, orderly induction into this country. get a grip and stop being so simple-minded

  • RW

Hey loudmouths. I’m anti-illegal immigration, not legal immigration. Politicians, follow the existing laws, not make up new laws to your benefit.

    • jeff-minneapolis

I see you keep making up new names and posting here lol. Sad.

The state of Minnesota hasn’t had a Democratic Governor for the last 20 years. If you want to make a connection between quality of education in the state and who’s leading it, you could do so very easily.

    • Alan

What do you want to bet that “Armando” is actually Billy Bob.

Based on my own experience, the falling high school scores and science proficiency is due to poor school funding, rules that force good teachers to quit, and parents that are uninvolved in their kids education.

But that’s only from being a high school science teacher for 27 years, so what do I know?

Am I the only one that sees this country going downhill from letting immigrants across U.S borders.???

        Wake up

        • JamieinMN

          Julie, your right.
I think since their moving immigrants into the United States, why not move Osama Bin Laden into the united states also…

  • Jen

I’m as annoyed as is humanly possible about the abuse of our system and using my hard earned money to support the illegal immigrants. However, I completely support those that do it the correct way. These people got in line and did things by the books. They wanted to come to our great country and they worked hard to earn this. These people know and respect American more than I ever have and I was born and raised as a white suburban child.

I have a little illness. I am not in the USA at this time. I am looking at returning home but need to bring someone with me to help me in getting better or at least able to live without government assistance. Which I will be able to do once I get my treatment going. I don’t want to be dependent on taxpayor dollars. But get this. I was told that is exactly what I should do. Leave where I am and come home and have the government take care of me. It would be a hell of a lot cheaper to just listen to what I’m trying to do and say and you would all be spared about $175K a year! I do praise these people that did it the LEGAL way. Welcome.

    • Patrick Lilja

No, but the Republicans thank you for your support.

LEGAL immigration is a good thing. As long as they are not on the dole, then no problem. The problem I have is who is being let in and why are they here in the first place?

Except the Native Americans we are all children of immigrants. Some recently arrived while others are the offsprings from those on the mayflower. Let us not forget our roots. America is what it is today because of its immigrant population.

People use this forum as a place to cowardly express their hate and fear. Why not do something good for your neighbor, your community, or your school. Then, I doubt you would have the time or energy to spew this ignorant garbage.

  • Albert

This country was built by people with the guts to drop everything and head into the unknown to seek a better life. Of course, the native americans kind of got it in the shorts as a result. Nice to see they can do it back with their lovely casinos.
