1 Dead, 1 Injured In Snowmobile Accident

MAHNOMEN, Minn. (WCCO) -- A 31-year-old man died after two snowmobiles collided on South Twin Lake in the eastern portion of Mahnomen County.

The Sheriff's Office received a 911 call around 5:50 p.m. Saturday regarding the accident and when crews arrived, they found two snowmobiles that had collided, resulting in two injured riders.

Christopher Eibensteiner, of Sartell, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man, Gregory Else, 30, of West Fargo, N.D., was transported to a Fargo area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities say a group of snowmobiles were traveling south on the lake when one of the snowmobilers hit a large snow ridge. That rider attempted to warn the other snowmobiles about the ridge when he was struck by one of the other snowmobiles.

Alcohol has been ruled out as a contributing factor.
