House Fire In Coon Rapids A Reminder To Clear Hydrants

COON RAPIDS, Minn. (WCCO) -- With more snow on the way a fire in Coon Rapids Sunday afternoon is a good reminder of why you need to keep fire hydrants clear of snow.

When Coon Rapids firefighters got to a fire on Grouse Street, the garage had already collapsed. Firefighters quickly hosed down the house next door which got scorched.

The fire did spread into the home that the garage was attached to and the floors collapsed to the basement.

The fire captain said if the hydrant wasn't dug out this could have been even worse.

"The neighbors did a good job. Somebody dug their local neighborhood hydrant out, so we're going to pitch that message again to everyone listening tonight to make sure your local hydrant is dug out, ready to go," said Capt. Tim Gilsrud of the Coon Rapids Fire Department.

There were people in the home when the fire started. No one was hurt.
