Sutton To Seek New Term As Minn. GOP Chairman

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Minnesota Republican Party chairman Tony Sutton says he'll try for a second term this spring.

Sutton announced his intentions on Tuesday but said he had already lined up backing from leading GOP elected officials. No one has announced plans to challenge him.

Sutton took over the state GOP in 2009. While the party lost the governor's office on his watch, it gained full control of the Legislature last fall.

Sutton says he has helped "build a party positioned to win elections going forward." All 201 legislative seats, eight congressional seats and a U.S. Senate seat are on the line in 2012, along with the presidency.

Sutton says his deputy, Michael Brodkorb, also plans to seek another two year term.
