Cottage Grove Man Killed In Iowa Tree-Cutting Accident

MARENGO, Iowa (AP) -- Authorities have identified two men who died in separate accidents in Iowa County in eastern Iowa.

The sheriff's office says 33-year-old Frank Meager, of Cottage Grove, Minn., was killed Wednesday afternoon in rural Williamsburg when a tree he was cutting down fell on him. Officials say Meager was a subcontractor working to clear the right-of-way for a pipeline company.

Authorities say 63-year of Gerome Miller, of Marengo, also died Wednesday when he was helping to free a pickup truck stuck in the snow and was hit by a tow strap. Officials say a group of hunters was trying to pull the truck out of the snow with another truck when the strap broke.

The sheriff's office released the men's names on Friday.
