Super Bowl Blog: Snowstorm Tangles DFW

By Eric Nelson, WCCO-TV

DALLAS (WCCO) - Super Bowl XLV nuggets from the winter wonderland of the south:

• Welcome to the land of ice and snow. A mini-blizzard late Thursday night was the latest dose of North Pole-like weather to hit North Texas...

• Dallas was the epicenter of the storm, getting 5-7 inches of powder. The snow crippled the metroplex Friday morning, which is still trying to get back to normal after ice paralyzed DFW earlier this week...

• Vancouver, B.C. is probably jealous. The Canadian city that hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics in unusually mild weather would have loved these chilly Texas temps...

• By the way, snowplows in Texas are a rumor. The state is ill-equipped to deal with winter weather...

• Green Bay running backs coach Edgar Bennett played on the Packers Super Bowl XXXI team that won a Super Bowl against the New England Patriots. Bennett believes that Packer Nation will someday again embrace Brett Favre, despite his acrimonious divorce from the team. Said Bennett: "I think they definitely will. I think he will always be a Packer without a doubt..."

• Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor is very impressed with Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers. "He's a leader, he's the focal point," Taylor said. "He's the guy on that offense. he's the guy on that team..."

• It's faith, family and football in Texas and not necessarily in that order. Thursday's Dallas Morning News devoted seven pages to national signing day. Texas produces football players like grapefruits...

• Allen H.S., located in a Dallas suburb, is building a $60 million stadium. The venue includes a video scoreboard and will have a seating capacity of 18,000...
