Gophers Add Football Recruit To 2011 Haul

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The Minnesota Gophers have added cornerback Cedric Thompson to their 2011 recruiting class.

Thompson played on both sides of the ball as a senior at Calipatria High School in California last season. He rushed for 1,808 yards and 27 touchdowns as a running back. He also had four interceptions and three sacks as a cornerback, which is where new Gophers coach Jerry Kill says he will play in college.

Thompson submitted his national letter of intent on Monday. He becomes the 23rd player to join Kill's first recruiting class at Minnesota.

Kill calls Thompson "a real diamond in the rough." He says Thompson was under the radar in the highly competitive recruiting game, but the Gophers were excited to bring him in.
