Minn. Letter Protests Julian Assange Extradition
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Minnesota supporters of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange have been denied entrance to the British consulate in Minneapolis.
The group had planned to deliver a letter Monday protesting Assange's possible extradition from Britain to Sweden to face sexual assault allegations.
WCCO-AM reports about 15 demonstrators, including former FBI agent Coleen Rowley, waved signs outside the building. If Assange is extradited to Sweden, they say it could lead to Assange eventually being transferred to the United States to face charges.
U.S. officials have been angered by WikiLeaks' publication of diplomatic cables and secret U.S. military files.
