Catholic Church: Don't Confess Sins To iPhone

WCCO's Interview With Dennis McGrath

Podcast

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Catholic Church is concerned that some ads may lead parishioners to believe they can use a new iPhone app for confession.

"In no way, shape or form is it a substitute for confession," Dennis McGrath, spokesman for the St. Paul-Minneapolis Archdiocese, said. "Some online stories are misleading, such as one that read: If a Catholic can't make it to confession, there's an app for that."

However, the Catholic Church is not opposed to the app if it's properly used, according to McGrath.

"It's to help you understand, to guide you, how you should walk in to the Sacrament of Reconciliation," explained McGrath. "Only a priest can offer absolution after confession of sins."
