Toro Plans Manufacturing Facility In Romania

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) — Toro Co. said Thursday it plans to build an irrigation products facility in Romania to give it greater access to the Eastern European market.

The Bloomington, Minn., company, which makes lawnmowers and irrigation systems, said the new facility will be located near the city of Ploiesti, and it will make micro irrigation products for use growing vegetables and field crops, as well as orchards and vineyards. Toro said micro irrigation is becoming a larger part of irrigated agriculture in Eastern Europe.

Construction of the new facility is expected to start in early 2011, and production should start in late summer 2011, the company said. Toro already has a micro irrigation manufacturing plant in Rome, Italy.

Toro shares rose $1.41, or 2.3 percent, to $62.65 in afternoon trading.

    1. St Paul says:

The article doesn’t say that it’s moving, just opening up another plant. So far, it’s still staying in the USA also.

Here is a clue for you Tom… Toro has 2 plants in Minnesota already, plus a number in the US, Why would they spend that much money to ship products to Romania?

  2. Roger Wilson says:

Certainly makes sense to locate a factory next to the customers.

  4. Todd says:

Quite the contrary. I see a company doing so well that they are expanding into other markets to see their products! This is one very well managed company!!

They are a wonderful U.S. company.
I see they’re not leaving, however I disagree they are expanding to other countries. They should make their “American Made” products here in the U.S. and ship them overseas or wherever. I think they want cheaper labor and they should have Americans build their wonderful products.

Even the Toro snow blowers and lawn mowers have parts made in China…. Every item has some foreign part in it even down to the packaging it comes in!

Democrats get a lot of cash from trial lawyers. Those corny lawyer TV ads are chasing jobs away from the USA more than anything.

Who are they kidding … $$$ is the motivation. We already know that products from China lack quality, can be dangerous, and subject to them stealing our technology. Good Ole Corporate Greed.
