During the tail end of last night’s snowstorm while many were tucked away in their houses, another group of people gathered on the 50th floor of the IDS Center for Minneapolis St. Paul magazine’s Best of the Best party.
The views were magnificent, watching the snow fall onto downtown’s twinkling lights, but the star of the night was the food. Area restaurants plowed through the snow to showcase signature dishes and they did it well.
I was amazed by the Dakota Jazz Club’s jalapeno poppers, which had just the right amount of spice complimented by smoky ham and cheese. Another favorite was the pimento cheese ball with summer sausage and tomato from Uptown Cafeteria. It was such a simple bite of food, but quite comforting with familiar flavors.
While I did not get a great picture of it, the most playful offering came from Cosmos in the form of “liquid explosions,” little bubbles of fruity gelatin that burst in your mouth to refresh your palate.
Disclosure: I received 2 regular admission tickets to attend this event this year and was under no obligation to write about it. This is my fourth year in attendance and is one of my favorite food-related events.
