St. Paul Police Arrest Man Accused Of Burglaries, Copper Thefts
ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- A 53-year-old man has been arrested in connection with two recent burglaries and copper thefts from a vacant factory in St. Paul.
The factory, located at 310 E. 5th St., was being turned into a Central Corridor light-rail facility.
St. Paul Police investigators were able to connect Thomas Eugene Gorze, of St. Paul, to the crime based on evidence left at the scene of the first burglary, which took place sometime between Feb. 11 and 14.
The second burglary occurred sometime between Feb. 18 and 20.
Police say Gorz was arrested at 801 Barge Channel Road in St. Paul, where he allegedly had approximately 1,000 pounds of high-grade copper that had been reported missing from the factory.
Investigators also say they recovered evidence that puts Gorz at the scene of the second burglary.
Police are trying to determine if Gorz was involved in any other similar cases of copper theft. They say they are not looking for any additional suspects in the Central Corridor thefts.
