All 3 Teams Return To Defend Wrestling Titles

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota state high school wrestling tournament opens Thursday at Xcel Energy Center with a new three-day format.

The team tournament runs all day Thursday, separate from individual competition Friday and Saturday.

All three of last year's team champions are returning to defend their titles -- Jackson County Central in Class A, Simley in Class AA and Apple Valley in Class AAA.

Jackson County Central is looking for its second straight title. Simley of Inver Grove Heights is seeking its fourth consecutive title. Apple Valley is going for its sixth title in a row.

In individual competition, 21 state champions are returning.

This is the third year that teams have been seeded for the tournament.
