DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — Plans are brewing in Duluth for the Minnesota city’s first DylanFest, a celebration of folk-rock icon Bob Dylan during his 70th birthday.

The Duluth News Tribune reports that locals are saving a seat for the guest of honor himself, though they admit it’s unlikely he’ll show. DylanFest will run May 23 through May 28. Dylan was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth on May 24, 1941.

Duluth’s celebration will overlap one in Hibbing, where Dylan grew up and which will host its 10th annual Dylan Days May 26-29. Organizers say the events aren’t designed to compete; the idea is for visitors to attend both.

Duluth’s DylanFest will include a “Blood on the Tracks” trip on the North Shore Scenic Railroad, a film festival and live music.

“Organizers say the events aren’t designed to compete; the idea is for visitors to attend both.” Yeah, right! Duluth has tried to capitalize on Dylan since the ’60′s, to no avail. Dylan wanted nothing to do with Duluth then, and probably wants less to do with Duluth today. Hibbing has the “rights” to Dylan, and his blessing.
