Rally Stars: Hopkins' Joe Coleman And Marvin Singleton

By Mike Max, WCCO-TV

HOPKINS, Minn. (WCCO) -- This week's High School Rally Star is actually Rally Stars. Hopkins is the number one rated boys basketball team in the state and they have two pretty good reasons why.

Joe Coleman knows all about what it takes to win basketball games. He's driven to do his part at Hopkins High School which means content self-improvement.

"I'd say my passing has gotten a lot better. I've been able to get my teammates involved and doing that our points per game has gone up. We're up to like 90 points a game so that's something crazy. So I'm glad I'm able to do that and help my team out," said Coleman.

Marvin Singleton is much the same. He's the second part of a 1-2 punch on a team filled with talent.

"I'm trying to work on my game inside and outside. And make sure young guys, make sure we bring them in, get them involved so in a pressure situation ... they don't feel nervous or pressure or anything," said Singleton.

That's why Hopkins keeps on winning. Two rally stars to go with a team filled with talent.

"They've been around a long time. They're very tough, skilled kids. Great leaders. I'm lucky as heck to have them," said Hopkins Basketball Coach Ken Novak Jr. "They're guys that can do a little bit of everything. They can go inside, they can go outside. The strength of our team is it's versatile. And Joe and Marvin kind of optimize that versatility."
