Traffic Congestion On Metro Freeways On The Rise

ROSEVILLE, Minn. (WCCO) -- Feeling a little backed up on the highway? You're not alone.

A freeway traffic study shows congestion increased between 2009 and 2010 by more than 3 percent. Factors affecting the congestion levels include the health of the local economy, population growth, gas prices, transit ridership and vehicle miles traveled.

There have been a number of projects in the past few years to help address congestion, including the 35W project, the addition of a third lane on Interstate 494 and the Crosstown reconstruction project.

The affects of the Crosstown project are not included in the congestion report. The report's study period ended around October of last year.
