Dayton Won't Have Radio Show; All Bids Rejected

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Gov. Mark Dayton won't have a weekly radio show for now after rejecting five proposals to air the show.

The Democratic governor's office announced the rejections on Tuesday. Dayton's office released the following statement in response to the proposals:

"We were looking for a proposal that enabled the people of Minnesota to have an open dialogue with their Governor in every corner of the state -- none of the proposals provided us with that opportunity."

The bidders were the BringMeTheNews.com website, JR Broadcasting, KFAI, the Minnesota News Network and WCCO Radio.  BringMeTheNews provides content to stations including Cities 97. JR Broadcasting owns AM-950.

Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Independence Party Gov. Jesse Ventura both had weekly one-hour radio shows on WCCO-AM.

WCCO Radio released the following statement about the announcement:

"WCCO has always welcomed the Governor of Minnesota to our airwaves and look forward to continuing that tradition with Governor Dayton.

It is our hope that we can sit down with the Governor and his Staff and find an ideal place in our schedule for him to continue what Minnesota Governors have done for more than a decade…talk to Minnesotans on WCCO Newsradio."
