Bank Robbery In Cologne

By Steve Murphy, NewsRadio 830 WCCO

COLOGNE, Minn. (WCCO) -- Authorities are investigating a bank robbery in a quiet community in Carver County Wednesday morning.

The Carver County Sheriff's Office says a man held up the Klein Bank branch on Paul Avenue in the town of Cologne sometime around 7:45 a.m.

Authorities said the man waited in the bank foyer for an employee to open the bank. Once the teller arrived, the suspect approached the teller with a knife. The FBI said at one point during the robbery, the suspect displayed a handgun and told the teller he would shoot her if she did not cooperate with him.

The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money and left in a silver SUV-style vehicle, possibly a Buick Rendezvous.

The robber was described as a lone white male, approximately 6 feet tall and weighing about 200 pounds. He wore a tan-colored Carhart type coat, black pants, black gloves, black mask and sneakers.

The FBI believes the suspect is the same person who robbed the First National Bank of the Lakes branch in Orono on Feb. 17, 2011, and possibly three to four other banks in the metro area over the past two months.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Carver County Confidential Tip Line at 952-361-1224 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
