St. Paul Expected To Settle Police Brutality Claim

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The St. Paul City Council is expected to approve a settlement Wednesday with a woman who claimed she was brutalized by a police officer.

The settlement would pay Cosetta Morris $270,000. The city has admitted no wrongdoing in the civil case.

Morris' roommate called police for help in March 2009. When officers arrived they found Morris pinning her roommate to a couch and trying to remove a ring. The lawsuit says Officer Adam Bailey told Morris to get off her roommate, then grabbed her from behind and flung her to the floor. Morris' arm went through the glass of a French door and she suffered tendon damage.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press says Morris sought $1 million in damages and attorney's fees.
