Committee To Investigate New U Of M Regent

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The chairman of the University of Minnesota Board of Regents has appointed a committee to look into a possible conflict of interest with a new regent who is also a part-time university employee.

Chairman Clyde Allen appointed the committee on Friday and asked it to see if there's a conflict of interest involving new Regent Steve Sviggum.

Sviggum was sworn in Thursday. He's a former House speaker and a part-time lecturer in the university's Humphrey School of Public Affairs.

Among other things, the regents set the university's budget.

Allen, Vice Chair Linda Cohen and Regent Patricia Simmons will serve on the committee and report back to the full board at its next meeting in May.
