DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — Kyle Schmidt had a goal and an assist and Justin Fontaine added two assists as Minnesota Duluth defeated St. Cloud St. 4-2 Friday in the first game of their Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs.
The Bulldogs (21-9-6) can wrap up a Final Five berth with a win on Saturday.
J.T. Brown, Justin Faulk and Mike Connolly also scored goal for Minnesota Duluth, which outshot the Huskies 30-22.
Kenny Reiter made 20 saves for UMD.
St. Cloud State (16-16-5) got goals from David Eddy and Aaron Marvin, the latter with an extra attacker to make it 3-2 at 15:53 of the third period.
Schmidt provided an insurance goal at 19:11 into an empty net.
Mike Lee made 26 saves for the Huskies.
