Minn. DNR Expecting Trail Closures During Thaw

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota Department of Natural resources says the spring thaw in the next few weeks will probably prompt some temporary road and trail closures in state forests.

DNR Forestry Division manager Richard Peterson says the thaw leads to soft soils, which are particularly susceptible to damage. He expects the temporary closures will begin in the next couple of weeks.

He says generally all roads and trails in a state forest are closed at once, but that's not always the case. The DNR recommends forest users check road and trail conditions before leaving for their trips.

Road and trail condition information is available at: mndnr.gov/trailconditions or by calling the DNR information center at (888) 646-6367 Monday through Friday.
