Minn. Duluth Beats St. Cloud St. In 3 OTs
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- Mike Connolly scored 1:13 into the third overtime to give Minnesota Duluth a 3-2 win over St. Cloud State and a sweep of their Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoff series.
Justin Fontaine assisted on all three goals for the Bulldogs (22-9-6), including two by Jack Connolly that gave UMD a 2-0 lead in the first period.
David Eddy's power-play goal early in the second period cut the deficit in two and Taylor Johnson scored the goal that sent the game into overtime at 9:20 of the third period.
St. Cloud State goalie Mike Lee took the loss despite making 60 saves. He had 15 stops in the first overtime and 11 in the second.
Bulldogs goalie Kenny Reiter stopped 37 shots.
Minnesota Duluth had a 63-39 shots on goal advantage.
