FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have reduced their spring training roster by 14 players, optioning seven players to minor-league teams and reassigning seven others to minor-league camp — including right-handed pitcher Kyle Gibson.

Gibson was Minnesota’s first-round draft pick in 2009 and a top prospect for the rotation. He was the organization’s minor league pitcher of the year in 2010. Gibson had a 4.91 ERA in three spring appearances.

Right-handed pitcher Deolis Guerra and outfielder Joe Benson were among the players optioned to Double-A New Britain. Guerra is the last remaining player acquired in the Johan Santana trade, and Benson was the organization’s minor league player of the year in 2010.
