Boy Uses Facebook To Call For Help

By Steve Murphy, NewsRadio 830 WCCO

ST. PAUL (WCCO) — When a 15-year-old boy couldn’t call 911, he instead used Facebook to report that his mother was in trouble.

“Using the telephone was not an option,” said Officer John Keating of the St Paul Police Department.

The boy turned to Facebook because the man who was assaulting his mother told him not to call police. The boy quietly went on Facebook and asked, “Would somebody please call 911?”

“Certainly there are some situations when some help via a social media site — Facebook or Twitter — is sometimes someone’s only option” said Keating.

A Facebook friend did call police. The suspect, 31-year-old Reggie Hart, now faces domestic assault charges.

Thirteen years ago, Hart was convicted in the killing of the 15-year-old boy’s father.

O.K. Why is this convicted killer out of prison?

  • pandoramn

This is why we need the death penalty – swift and sure for these career criminals who think they are above the law. There is no rehabilitation for these animals!

  • Justice

Why domestic assault? Was the woman dating the man that killed her son’s father? That’s pretty sick. Seems like more serious charges are in order.

  • Dave Seavy

Nowhere in the piece does it say she was dating him. That came from your own imagination.

    • Mombo

No, they probably read that part somplace else, like I did.

    • Justice

@ Dave Seavy..”Domestic violence most often refers to violence between married or cohabiting couples” – Legal Definition. My own Imagination? You don’t have to be very intelligent to piece that together. Apparently you are not.

  • CAH

Regardless Domestic assault is not OK. If she was dating her husbands killer a higher power will judge her. I also agree with the death penalty.

OK….can anyone say ‘good thinking!!!’ to the 15-year-old boy??? Great job, young man…you are a hero!!!

  • Victim Du Jour

The mother must be really turned on by the man who kill her sons father.

You’d think convicted murderer would be a red flag.

You think he sent her flowers and some chocolates when he got out?

  • paab

There is more to this story. I thought the boy used imagination and good thinking in general to use the internet to call for help. I hope his mother knows what a great son she has and keeps people like this horrible man far away from her child.

  • Sheila

If the mother was dating her husbands killer, she needs more help then anyone. Good job to the 15 year old boy. I am sure this wasent the first time he had been in that type of situation. Even though he is 15, I hope someone has enough smarts to step in and get this kid out of there and some help.

    Good boy.
