Penalties Against Democratic Wis. Senators Undone

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin’s Democratic state senators will have votes they cast in committee counted and other penalties imposed against them will be rescinded after they returned to the state on Saturday.

Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said Tuesday that assurances he received from Democrats that they will participate in future Senate sessions and votes allowed him to rescind finding the Democrats in contemp.

Fitzgerald on Monday said that Democrats would still not be allowed to have their committee votes counted since contempt votes in the Senate had not been rescinded.

But he said Tuesday their votes will be counted, no fines will be imposed, and other smaller steps taken to incite them to return will also be dropped.

The Democrats came back after the union rights bill they opposed passed.

“contemp”? Got proof-readers or editors? Even spell-check should catch that if you bother to use it.

Thanks, Grammar Police. You’re providing a valuable service to the community here.

Mark, it is more than just a matter of being the “Grammar Police.” It takes away from their professional credibility if they cannot even take the time to write correctly. If they are that lazy about their writing, are they lazy about other journalistic endeavors? I find a typo or two in just about every article I read on WCCO’s website. It is a sad commentary that our culture thinks it is okay to not present ourselves professionally.

I am currently taking a Career Seminar class where this lack of writing ability is deemed to not be acceptable as we graduate and pursue our careers. Thank you to my professors who still teach that grammar skills are VERY important!

I wouldn’t complain too much about something you’re getting for free.

      • K

I do not like grammer cops either.

Who said it was for free. Internet fees, phone fees, compute costs, electricity fees, and not to mention the unknown fees that advertisers pay Yahoo – they recoup some of their advertising fees via their product costs.

In other words, It’s not free.

Paul, if you brought in a volunteer to assist in your place of business, would you expect them to give you their best? Or would it be okay to give you less than your employees simply because you do not pay this person? I would hope not.

why should they get out of having to pay these fines? what a joke!

  • lib

Why do Democrats get away without punishment? Now they have no incentive to stick around should another law or policy they don’t like comes up for a vote.
They did a “bad” thing not a “good thing” and this Fitsgerald bum should be thrown out for not doing his job.

Good question. Ask the Repulican’t who made the decision.

  • LOUDelf

I’m wondering if their time off will count as vacation days used, or a reduction in pay. Or do they not have to abide by those rules either?

Good question. Ask the Repulican’t who made the decision.

Wisconsin’s Democratic state senators know that the new law is good and wanted to vorte for it but needed to put on a show for re-election reasons.
They know that buying votes by handing out lavish pensions that our children will have to pay is wrong. They also know that it is a great law because if unchecked, the pensions would break the system and then simply be cut and no one would get anything. God bless Scott Walker for saving my government Union pension.

    • When is the next election

Amen Randy … All the Assembly and Senate were in favor of this bill even the one Republican Senator and numerous Assembly members who voted against it. They just can’t say it in public like you can. Scott Walker is the man …
