Minn. Jury Convicts Man In Fatal Stabbing

OWATONNA, Minn. (AP) -- An Oklahoma man will spend life in prison for killing his former girlfriend by stabbing her more than 100 times in Minnesota.

A jury in Steele County on Tuesday convicted 23-year-old Ryan Stanley Hurd of all five counts against him in the death of 19-year-old Kathryn Rose Anderson. Prosecutors say Anderson was taken from her Eagan apartment in December 2009, stabbed 109 times and left in a highway ditch. Hurd fled the state and was later arrested in his hometown of Tulsa, Okla. Hurd had a no-contact order against him at the time of the murder. Friends say Hurd and Anderson were ending their relationship.

The Owatonna People's Press reports the convictions include first-degree premeditated murder. Judge Casey Christian sentenced Hurd to a mandatory life in prison without the possibility of parole.
