ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The University of St. Thomas men’s basketball team is trying to bring a national title back to St. Paul.
The Tommies will play Middlebury on Friday night in the NCAA Division III semifinals in Salem, Va. They’ve won 10 straight games, including four so far in the national tournament.
The Tommies bring some championship pedigree on their trip east. Stars Tyler Nicolai and Teddy Archer each won Minnesota State High School titles in 2006, for Hopkins and DeLaSalle respectively. They’re two of the five seniors playing key roles this season.
This is just the fourth time a Minnesota team has reached the Division III men’s basketball semifinals. Gustavus was runner-up in 2003, St. Thomas took fourth place in 1994 and Hamline did the same in 1977.
