GLENWOOD, Wis. (WCCO) — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a truck driver in western Wisconsin early Friday morning, in an incident authorities believe involved alcohol.

According to the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office, a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 38-year-old Gary Evenson struck 59-year-old Roger Forrest along County Highway G just before 4 a.m.

Forrest was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said Forrest was wearing dark clothing and had no reflective markings.

Investigators believe alcohol played a factor in the incident.

You’re so right Benn wants! Who was suspected of drinking? The pedestrian, which at this point it really doesn’t matter, or the truck driver?

  2. red says:

Why was someone crossing the freeway in the middle of the night? Dahh

    1. Deborah Neihart says:

Sorry, To get to the other side.

    2. Wisconsingirl says:

      It’s a highway..not even close to a freeway.

  3. Anngel says:

I believe the article said he was “along” the county highway, which could mean he was walking along the highway and not trying to cross it.

  4. JLD says:

Sad ‘cco connected the byline with the drivers name but so happy to see that ppl are guessing it could possible have been the pedestrian that was drinking and NOT the driver. Tragic all around.

  5. Hil says:

To clear up all misconceptions of the incident, the driver was driving drunk. He will be charged with manslaughter. Roger Forrest was NOT crossing the road, instead he was just walking along the road to his house. His house is located on Hwy G, which is not an interstate. It’s a country road which does not see much traffic. Roger was a kind man that spent most of his life caring for his ill mother. It is tragic that his life as ended before he even had the chance to start to life it for himself. People shouldn’t comment on matters that they lack insight into.

  6. JLD says:

Hil while I am terribly sorry for your loss, this is an open forum & ppl are allowed to express their opinion & question the stories lack of detail.

  7. Breezy says:

Well said Hil. I would like to add to those that find crass humor and inapporiate jokes that the question of whether Roger was drinking or not is not as important as the fact that he was WALKING and not driving a vehicle and endangering others around him. Furthermore, yes this is an open forum but I am sure that if this was a member of your family you would be as appalled and disgusted by the speculation about the loss of a wonderful man. Please keep in mind that althought this is just a news article to you, this man had a life that was cut too short and a family that is deeply mourning his death. Think before you type people. Thank you. Much love to the Forrest Family.

I am very sorry for the loss of life here. It is tragic all around. Hopefully this article will help someone out there to think before taking hold of the wheel. I admit, wearing dark clothing and walking along the road is not a smart thing to do at 4 am- even without the influence of alcohol, people and things are hard enough to see. Its very tragic for all families involved. May Roger rest in peace, and bless his soul for taking care of his ill mother.
