Flood Forecast Could Be Worse For St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The Mississippi River doesn't hit major flood stage in St. Paul in the new seven-day forecast from the National Weather Service office in Chanhassen, but it is predicted to rise.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports the weather service is forecasting that the river will reach flood stage of 14 feet on Thursday and 15.1 feet by next Friday.

Major flooding occurs when the level hits 17 feet.

The forecast released Friday does not show when, or how high, the river will crest in St. Paul. It is now at about 5 feet.

Meanwhile, crews have cleared an ice jam that developed along the Sand Creek in Jordan.

Crews used a backhoe to clear as much of the ice jam as they could from shore. Water had backed up behind the jam and started to flow onto farm fields.
