"Well, you have here a madman (Moammar Gadhafi) who's basically been starving his country and bombing his own people. And so that is why we stood with the rest of the world," said the Minnesota Democrat.

Klobuchar said the international involvement in the bombing raids differs from Iraq and Afghanistan in that the U.S. is not alone.

She said the U.S. could not have acted without international involvement.

"This time we just simply, one, can't afford it; two, need to work with the rest of the world so that they are participating," said Klobuchar.

She said President Obama has made it clear the U.S. will not be using ground troops so that makes it very unlikely there would be long-term involvement.
