Mbakwe Questioned After Incident In Dinkytown

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- University of Minnesota basketball player Trevor Mbakwe was questioned after a property damage incident early Sunday morning, according to Minneapolis Police.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. on 14th Avenue SE and 5th Street near the University of Minnesota campus.

A police spokesperson said the property damage was related to a vehicle.

He also said Mbakwe was not arrested and it doesn't look like any charges would be filed, but that is ultimately up to the city attorney's office.

On Jan. 11, Mbakwe was arrested after he sent an ex-girlfriend a message on Facebook, violating a harassment restraining order the woman obtained against Mbakwe.

Mbakwe pleaded not guilty and his next court appearance is scheduled for April.

Head coach Tubby Smith and athletic director Joel Maturi decided against suspending Mbakwe for the January incident.
