Highway 101 In Shakopee Closes Due To Flooding

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Highway 101 in Shakopee, Minn. closed in both directions Wednesday because of rising flood water.

MnDOT and the State Patrol closed the road at 9 a.m. Wednesday. It  remained open to emergency vehicles through noon.

The highway closure spans between Flying Cloud Drive and downtown Shakopee.

MnDOT suggests motorists traveling southbound head east on Highway 212 to southbound Interstate 494, then south on Highway 169 to Hwy. 101. Drivers heading north can take the reverse route.

Crews said Highway 41 is still open and can also be used as a detour, but it will also close by Thursday.

the above “click here” link to 511mn.org doesn’t work – you get:

wcco has an extra . after org. if you copy and paste their link, then remove the . after org, then it works.

Good thing the pedestrian bridge is still above water. The $2 million the city goverment spent was paid off!

  • I don't get it!

I agree! Why didn’t they spend that $2 million on raising the road leading up to the “new” bridge.

Can anyone explain why a bridge is built with the road at a lower flood-prone level? Why is it left this way? How complex is it to raise the road to the level of the bridge? This has to be only about a 1/4 mile length of road.

    Can someone explain?

If the road is not actually flooded out yet, why is it closed? If an emergency vehicle can pass through why can’t a car?

Welcome to Minnesota at its best. I don’t understand why Highway 41 has not been built up to accept traffic over the MN River during flood times. Granted the new road will be built SOMEDAY but how many years do we have to put up with this kind of not having a road to connect between the 2 sides of the river? You have Belle Plaine, if that doesn’t close, or you have 169 which is not built to handle the traffic during rush hours during normal times without sitting and sitting. If Belle Plaine closes, I guess you can go to Iowa, then South Dakota and come up the other side if you can find roads open. This is totally not acceptable. Our Government at its best.

So, 101 is closed, 41 is closed and we are still building that stupid walking bridge right next to 101, the walking bridge which leads to absolutley nowhere. IDIOTS!
