Orono Outlasts Columbia Heights 85-76 For 3A Title

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Brady Wohler scored 23 points and Jordan Smith added 21 points to help the Orono Spartans outlast the Columbia Heights Hylanders 85-76 on Saturday night in the Class 3A state championship game.

Zach Lofton led Columbia Heights with 19 points, sprinting off the court as soon as the buzzer sounded and skipping the postgame handshake. Assistant coach Zeb Howell pulled him back for the medal ceremony, but high school league officials promptly took Lofton off the all-tournament team for his early departure.

Lofton, an emotional star who averaged more than 30 points per game this season, picked up his fourth foul and had to watch from the bench while Orono turned a 47-all tie into a 70-57 lead when he re-entered the game with less than 7 minutes left.
