Protests Drive Up Capitol Security Costs In Wis.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A newspaper report says the cost to law enforcement agencies for providing security during weeks of protests at the Wisconsin Capitol is at $3.2 million and counting.

The preliminary numbers were reported Monday by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel include pay, overtime, mileage, food and hotels.

The figures don't include figures from some city police departments and county sheriff's departments because they haven't tallied their bills and some invoices from larger agencies weren't available.

More than 150 law enforcement agencies in the state have submitted bills. The state Administration Department is responsible for reimbursing other agencies for the costs.
