I-494 Ranked Among Nation’s Worst Commutes

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — How many times have you gotten stuck in traffic along Interstate 494? More times than you can count?

Well, according to one survey of GPS and smartphone tracking data, it’s not just your imagination. The commute along eastbound I-494 is considered among the nation’s worst for congestion.

The findings were reported on AOL Autos website, based on information obtained from the company INRIX.

The traffic jams along the Twin Cities interstate were bad enough to earn the ranking of 13th worst in the U.S.

The list was topped by, where else, Los Angeles, where eastbound Riverside Freeway (Highway 91) is making motorists miserable.

Rounding out the top five were stretches in Honolulu, San Francisco, New York and Washington, D.C.

Only the Kennedy/Dan Ryan Expressways in Chicago topped I-494 among Midwestern commutes.

Try Hwy. 13 along Eagan and Burnsville, and Hwy 35E South from the cities to Burnsville and beyond during the 5 o’clock rush hour. Now those are the worst.

  • Unlucky

Figures the rank is 13th!!!!! not only is it a bad commute, but now it is a bad luck commute. Only in Minnesota :(

They are all bad; try Cedar to 35W or 35W to Burnsville. At least on Hwy 13 there are back roads to take and if there is an accident you can detour around them much easier. I drive Hwy 13 every day and have driven the other 3 but am lucky to have Hwy 13 as my current commute.

It’s a tough life living in the suburbs. Choices and Consequences. I love my 10 minute inner city communte to work. I obvoiusly made the right choice.

You have no idea what bad traffic is. Try LA for a week or the east coast. We have it pretty good here in Minny.
